  7. ========

  9.        XModule (pronounced Cross Module) is a music module
  10. conversion utility that tries to solve this problem.  The project
  11. started in early 1993, as a friend of mine (Fabio), who wrote a lot of
  12. (good) music on Oktalyzer, needed ProTracker to obtain certain effects.
  13. He had an old PD conversion program called `Tracker' that worked only
  14. in particular conditions and was really bogus.  So I decided to contact
  15. the author and he let me have the source for Lit30000  (about $20).
  16.  
  17.    The original program has been completely rewritten from scratch, as
  18. the source was really poorly coded.  At the moment, Oktalyzer,
  19. ProTracker, NoiseTracker and SoundTracker are the only supported
  20. formats, but I'm still developing XModule, so contact me if you want to
  21. see your favorite music editor added to this (short) list (see Author).

  23.    Now XModule sports many other features, like module optimization, a
  24. nice user interface and complex module editing.  This is why I like to
  25. call XModule a module processor.  XModule is to the music processing
  26. what ADPro and ImageFX are to image processing (am I a bit immodest?).

  29. Beta Version
  30. ============

  32. This package contains a *BETA* release of XModule.
  33. Before running it, you should be warned about a few things:
  34.  
  35. - Many gadgets and menu items are disabled, some operations
  36.   could guru your system or ruin your modules.
  37.  
  38. - The documentation is sometimes incorrect and some parts
  39.   have not been written yet.
  40.  
  41. - Please, do not spread modified versions of this beta.  When
  42.   XModule will be released in its fullly working version, I'll
  43.   include the full source code and grant you permission to
  44.   modify and spread it.
  45.  
  46. - Please do not base your opinion of XModule on this beta release.
  47.   The final version will be fully operative and bug free (I hope).
  48.  
  49. - Do not report obvious bugs: I know that the Sample editor is
  50.   not working.  If, instead, you see a little, hard to discover bug
  51.   like a small memory loss or errors converting a particular module,
  52.   report it immediatly.  Failure to do this will probably result in
  53.   the bug not fixed in the next release version.

  56. - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK: XModule could destroy one of your favourite
  57.   modules or even format your hard disk (just kidding :-), but I will
  58.   not refound you for any damage caused by the use of this beta.
